For all the new Stellaris players out there, here is a quick list of tips and tricks. When you upgrade a building, you will often increase the number of jobs available within that building by over double. This may seem like a bonus, but it really depends on your resources.
The more jobs you can provide, the more production you can instill within your citizenship. That being said, creating more jobs also means creating a larger demand for certain resources.
If you run out of those resources, then production will come to a halt. While playing passively was certainly an option during the old days of Stellaris, the recent update to the game has changed all of that. Everyone is out to get you. If you want to stay in control, then you are going to have to learn how to handle yourself in times of war. Shipyards will produce ships for your war front. Consequently, you will likely lose the war once your shipyards have been captured and destroyed. There will be times when you are in the middle of a war and a third-party empire will begin picking off your warships as they travel between worlds. Not only is this a frustrating experience, but also a detrimental nuisance to your war effort. When you find yourself repeatedly dealing with one of these systems, check the bottom of your system screen for a ship icon.
Toggle the ship icon to order your warships to avoid that particular system. Now your warships will find a new trajectory to reach their destinations and will avoid being picked off by the third-party empire. Colonizing a planet with machines only requires alloy. Consequently, you will want to construct an allow processor early on in the game to stock up this precious resource. After doing so, colonizing your planets will be a breeze. One of the first things you are going to want to do after establishing your first colony is to gather up three science ships and go exploring.
Use these ships to map out your surrounding area. Learn what planets exist within your neighboring star systems. Check out your neighboring civilizations. If you ever want to use construction ships to build an outpost, for instance, you will first have to get a science ship to completely survey the entire system in which the outpost will reside.
Keeping a tidy sum of surplus resources around becomes seemingly impossible by mid-game. That being said, there is a solution. This is not a sign that you are failing, but rather that you have created a growing, ravenous civilization.

To have access to the accession perk you need to have either the spiritualist or fanatic spiritualist ethic. These decisions can only be performed on celestial bodies in your territory that are not habitats, ringworlds, or star class bodies this includes blackholes, neurton stars, etc.
Basically this means it can be applied to all planets, inhabitable or uninhabitable. BOTH decisions both to add and remove the modifier cost 50 influence base. You may only have 3 consecrated worlds at a time. You may reroll a planet's tier repeatedly and endlessly as long as you are willing to spend the influence. Each Consecrated Quality Tier adds 1 point per a tier level to your Empire's Consecrated Modifier, which scales from 1 a single tier 1 planet to 12 three tier 4 planets.

Naturally some perks are better than others. In the early game players gain access to Tier 0 perks, then Tier 1 that requires one previously owned perk, Tier 2 that requires two previously owned perks, and so on.
The tier list below will set you on the path to the best parks in Stellaris according to your strategic builds. This could easily be your best early perk, if you're planning to go wide.
Since you need a lot of Influence early on, this is exactly the type of perks that saves your Influence costs. From then on you can expand as further as you wish in your conquest gameplan. Interstellar Dominion will truly help you build a real empire in space. Of course, if wide expansion is not your plan, then skip this one, and opt for other perks that fit your gameplan better. Research speed that this perk provides may not be much, but in the early game it will give you a huge boost.
You will find better ways to increase your research speed, but that comes much later. For now, you can use this in your technological build to a great effect. If you can pair it with Enigmatic Engineering Tier 1 perk, you can start a real tech dominance in space. If you don't have any plan yet, then this would be the best general strategy Tier 0 perk.
The admin cap automatically increases your research speed, although not by as much as Technological Ascendancy. But this perk has other advantages unless you're headed right in for technological dominion. It not only reduces your Tradition costs, but also Leader and upkeep costs, which is very useful in the early stages of the game. Previously this was a Tier 0 perk, but it was moved to Tier 1 due to its slow effect in the early game.
However, the more you progress through the game, the bigger of an impact it has. One of its advantages is that it saves your energy, but its main point is to increase the number of max districts on your planets. Since these can get very expensive very quickly, Mastery of Nature will reduce the cost of their administration. Starbases start playing an especially important role in the mid-game, when the number of them will get increasingly larger.
The increase in the capacity nets you overall better trade value, which plays an especially big role for upgraded starbases.While everybody discusses how hive minds and other features need rework, I feel like traditions are forgotten somehow. However, in my opinion it is one of the most lazily implemented game features. And tweaking numbers in each patch does not help. Were they sandwitched between other empires and had no place to expand? Did they start near the old-forgotten mining drones and had to fight through them? Some of the choices will be inevitably dictated by ethics. But there should be also some freedom of action. By the way, ascension perks do this job quite well from time to time: you may accidentaly go psionic if you find Zroni or pick "Galactic Contender" if things start getting ugly.
From game design point of view, let's face it, traditions were a rushed decision, badly copied from Civilization V. There is an important difference though: first of all, some of the CivV civics were mutually exclusive. Secondly, they were unlocked at the certain moment during the game — this gave the possibility to balance the civic trees differently.
Thirdly, the culture costs were high and one couldn't finish all the non-exclusive trees. The latter will be too hard to balance for Stellaris, though.

About Machine empires: Machine empires are powerful as they are and there is no proper way to make it weaker — their economy is more straightforward and they can colonize everything they see.
